  Karkehan News: Welcome to Life

This vid by Tom Scott is excellent. It kind of reminds me of how I imagine the Grid - where you can live on as a conscious stream in virtual reality. Unlike the NL Gird - this one has a catch (or two). Nicely done :) click here to watch

Europe update News: The Jono Gramophone

Want a gramophone to play your old LPs? Try the kitset "Jonofon". It looks beautiful, is made of cardboard, balsa and the bare minimum of electronics. Simplicity at it's most beautiful. Hopefully this will be available to buy soon! click here to admire the Jonofon

New HiTech News: Interact with anything

Disney's Touche system can allow a user to interact with anything. It can detect movement, posture, hand positions and much more. This could give a sense of awareness to machines well beyond the humble touch screen. I look forward to this appearing in the everyday world and if it doesn't then hopefully in a Disney theme park somewhere. click here to read the ExtremeTech article

That's just weird... News: A six-legged walker vehicle? I want one!

I know it's weird - but the six-legged "Stompy" looks cool. Imagine "walking" down the road in one of these - crazy goodtimes I say! It'd be amazing if they actually do KickStart this idea. click here to read the Wired article

Dripfeeds from The Elite News: Bio Integration

It's good to see more research going into integration of plants into our living spaces. I personally believe that our way of living is too divorced from the Biosphere, and that we need to re-integrate with plants and animals (and NOT in the typical domestic/dominant kind of way). Some cool research I've seen in this field to date includes:
exploration of living furnitiure
a bio mass plant planned for the UK
BBC article on Chinese Eco-Cities

Other Topics News: It's Life Jim...

With the discovery of exo-planets the scientific community is keen to propose life is teaming everywhere. However a recent study suggests life is much less likely. The reason: we're biased. click here to read

  New HiTech News: Google Goggles

Google is working on augmented reality glasses, which will allow a Head Up Display (HUD) of information on the world around you and allow you to perform functions much like an Android phone can. Check out the video on this link: click here to read

Mass Destruction Anyone? News: Greed will kill us all

Why do nations fail and others succeed? A number of studies point to the history and culture of a society - if the culture tolerates corrupt and selfish rulers/elites they are doomed to fail. Societies that succeed allow more fluid movement between the classes and tolerate less corruption. In other words - short sighted cultures - i.e. greedy ones that consume resources without thought for tomorrow will quite obviously fail. For instance the depletion of forests is closely linked to collapse of populations in ancient civilisations. An interesting take is reviewed here
